I am currently involved in rewriting our interactive design application, which was originally based on Performer, to OSG.
I have also written a GUI tool called OsgLODeditor to simplify the creation of LOD nodes with appropriate range values. This has proven quite useful in our own workflow and I hope that it does the same to yours, so have a look if you're interested.
